Acura has had a hard time building and maintaining a brand identity over the past decade. Itself unsure of whether it should strive for “Tier 1″ luxury status or position itself as a near-luxury, high-tech brand for up-and-coming professionals and hip retirees, its product has reflected this lack of direction. The 2013 Acura ILX continues this confusion, especially in light of the coming reborn NSX, but it’s worth evaluating the smallest Acura sedan on its own merits.

Based not-so-loosely on the latest generation of the Honda Civic, the ILX nonetheless has its own face: a more toned-down, widely-palatable version of the chromed plastic grille Acura introduced a few years ago. The fenders swell gently from the sides, there are character lines to accent its shape, and the greenhouse arches gracefully ove the passenger compartment. On the whole it’s a handsome, if not lust-inducing, sedan. Inside, it looks like a typical Acura: edgy curves, contoured surfaces, and easy-to-read gauges. It’s a pleasant place to travel.

There are three versions of the 2013 Acura ILX available, named for their drivetrains: the 2.0L, the 2.4L, and the Hybrid. The 2.0L offers a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine rated at 150 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic with paddle shifters is standard. It scores an EPA-estimated gas mileage rating of 24 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.

The 2.4L is the sporty model, with what is essentially the Honda Civic Si’s 201-horsepower, 170-pound-foot 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission–no automatic is offered with this model. It’s the fun-to-drive version, but you’ll have to sacrifice more creature comforts than the automatic transmission to get it, but more on that later. It’s rated at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Finally, the 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid gets its go from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an integrated hybrid drive system and continuously variable transmission (CVT). Total combined power is rated at 111 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. The EPA estimates gas mileage at 39 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

All three share the same basic lightweight chassis, which means all three feel nimble enough in the corners, and brake very well. The suspension tuning on the 2.4L the same as the other two models, and falls short of true sport-sedan feel. The 2.0L and Hybrid models put comfort above outright pace, and succeed in delivering smooth, even ride quality. While the 2.4L is the sportiest model, the 2.0L is also fun-to-drive, with enough pep for most people and somewhat better gas mileage. The Hybrid, on the other hand, feels very slow in many situations–too slow even for fast-flowing suburban traffic at times.

Inside, the cabin is comfortable and spacious–surprisingly so in the rear seats, with enough room even for taller adults to fit comfortably. Ergonomically, things are laid out very well, with all controls easy to identify and use without taking one’s eyes from the road. Fit and finish is also very good, with solid-feeling construction and quality materials (plastic, rubber, and leather) in all touch-points. Cabin noise is low, though not quite mausoleum-quiet like you’ll find in some luxury cars a bit farther up the ladder, including Acura’s own.

There’s also a fairly roomy trunk, ample in-cabin storage in cubbies and door pockets, with well-placed cup holders. Cargo volume is a solid 12.4 cubic feet (10.0 cubic feet for the Hybrid, which places the battery pack behind the rear seats). Visibility is very good thanks to the large windows and well-placed seating position.

Features and options for the 2013 Acura ILX are grouped neatly into packages: Premium and Technology. The Premium Package includes leather seating surfaces; eight-way power adjustable driver seat; two-way heated front seats; a premium sound system with Bluetooth, USB, and Pandora functionality; an auto-dimming rearview mirror; a multi-view rear camera; and on non-Hybrid models, an active sound cancellation system that further damps noise within the cabin. The Technology Package includes: navigation with voice recognition, a rear-view camera, real-time traffic/weather, and AcuraLink satellite communications system; plus a premium sound system with Bluetooth, USB, and Pandora among its capabilities. The Premium Package is available on all 2013 Acura ILX models, while the Technology Package is available only on 2.0L and Hybrid models.

Standard equipment on all 2013 Acura ILX models includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel; cloth-trimmed front seats (2.0L base and Hybrid); dual-zone automatic climate control; Bluetooth hands-free phone interface; power moonroof; keyless entry with push-button start; rear-view camera; and a 12-volt power outlet. Available accessories include larger 17-inch alloy wheels, aerodynamic bodywork, fog lights, a remote engine start, and an engine block heater.

The 2013 Acura MDX has the luxurious design and space-efficient, versatile packaging that’s made high-end luxury crossover models the vehicle of choice among affluent U.S. families, but it has one addition thing that most of the other models don’t: It’s actually enjoyable to drive. With a comfortable cabin, and impressive safety, and just a hint of ruggedness—plus eye-raising, fleet-footed performance on the pavement, the 2013 Acura MDX gives a wide range of shoppers both what they need and what they want in a seven-passenger, three-row luxury crossover vehicle.

For the most part, the 2013 Acura MDX remains one of our favorite luxury crossovers, and the design has aged well in the several years since its last full redesign. It’s one of Honda‘s better efforts at giving a rather utilitarian, box-on-wheels design some character. The few sleek curves applied to its fairly upright body really do wonders, particularly at the back pillar.

The 2013 Acura MDX remains related to the Honda Pilot, but as the more rakish sheetmetal suggests, the 2013 Acura MDX is much more focused toward the on-the-road driving experience. Power comes on strong from a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6, which delivers impressive passing power even with a full load, with a six-speed automatic transmission, and a very smart, dynamically sharp all-wheel-drive system puts the power to the pavement (or gravel, sand, or snow) confidently. The power steering remains a bit too light (with a quick ratio that takes some getting used to), but overall we think the 2013 Acura MDX‘s optional magnetic-electronic suspension system improves both ride and handling. Overall, the AWD system, the suspension, and the steering together neatly excise the portliness (or at least, the sense of it) that taints the driving experience of so many crossovers—especially those with three rows.

Adults will find all-day comfort in any of the perches in the front two rows. The front seats especially offer great bolstering and support. As for the third row, it’s child-sized, as are most benches in this class, but the second-row seat tilts and slides forward to expand access to the back. There are plenty of storage bins and cubbies inside the 2013 Acura MDX, and with the second and third rows folded forward there’s enough virtually flat space to swallow most weekend project materials. Otherwise, the cabin’s a well-executed comfort zone, with Milano leather trim and woodgrain trim cascading from the midline of the dash, as on the bigger RL sedan. The one exception—and a peeve we just can’t get over—is the instrument panel’s cluttered and unnecessarily complex layout

You won’t mistake the 2013 Acura MDX for anything but a luxury vehicle. In addition to impressive interior trims and materials, it comes with all the comforts and conveniences that are expected in premium cars, and you can option it up with impressive audio, infotainment, and even an adaptive suspension.

The 2013 Acura MDX carries over essentially unchanged from last year. It comes loaded with all the features that are expected in a larger luxury vehicle—except for a USB port, which is included only with the upgraded audio system. But the excitement comes in the options, and most of them are grouped into one of three different packages: Technology, Advance, and Entertainment. We do recommend that awesome, 410-watt audio upgrade that you get with the Tech package; while the Entertainment package is for those with kids they want to entertain with the included DVD system. The Advance package adds on ventilated front seats; the adaptive suspension; and a host of safety pieces, like blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and brakes that apply themselves if the vehicle senses an accident is imminent.

The All New 2013 Acura RDX takes what was good about the previous model–its just-right size, nimble handling, and attractive design–and makes them better, while working on the rough spots. Those rough spots included a slightly too-rough ride, laggy power delivery paired with a balky transmission, and somewhat lackluster gas mileage. They’re mostly smoothed over in the 2013 Acura RDX.

It’s not often that a car manufacturer gets so far out ahead of the curve that it’s forced to retrace its steps, but in some ways, that’s exactly what happened to the 2013 Acura RDX. Offered in turbo four-cylinder form well before that was the happening thing in luxury vehicles, let alone crossovers, many eschewed the smaller Acura for the MDX or went to rival brands offering six-cylinder models.

Fast forward a few years, and those rival brands are now bringing out their own turbocharged four-cylinders and Acura has moved to a 273-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine. While that might seem like a step backward, it’s actually more fuel efficient, slightly more powerful (at peak) and noticeably smoother in its power delivery. All of those things make the move away from turbocharged small-displacement engines back to V-6 territory a sensible one, despite the shifting sands of the rest of the market. Fuel economy of the new V-6 picks up as much as 5 mpg highway over the previous 2012 RDX.

Behind the wheel, the new 2013 Acura RDX feels nearly as peppy as the previous model off the line, though the surge of the 2012 model’s turbo added some excitement that’s not present in the linear power delivery of the new V-6–though that’s not really a criticism. Under full throttle, the RDX willingly merges with speedy freeway traffic, readily passes 50-mph two-lane slow pokes, and generally zips around like you’d expect a luxury crossover to do. It also handles the road well, absorbing big bumps with ease while remaining composed in windy sections. It owes this behavior to its new two-stage dampers, which include a secondary floating piston that activates in certain driving conditions to control body motion and improve handling without sacrificing ride comfort.

The transmission, on the other hand, lags slightly behind driver inputs, particularly when a two- or three-gear downshift is required (hard acceleration from moderate speeds, as in passing), balking for just a moment before grabbing the gear and accelerating as desired. The issue was noticed in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive models, indicating it’s not a problem of the on-demand distribution of torque to the rear wheels.

Exterior design of the 2013 RDX is slightly changed from the 2012 model, though not markedly so; the prominent grille is made slightly less noticeable, the fender arches are slightly more pronounced, and the overall design is smoother and more mature. Inside, the interior is all-new, with characteristic Acura high-tech style, but thankfully less reliance on bright, hard plastic elements and more soft-touch, matte-finish items. A preponderance of bright-finish chrome in the center stack is eye-catching, but clashes slightly with the look and makes sunny days a chore of avoiding reflected glare, seemingly catching the sun from every angle.

The cabin itself is quiet–very, quiet, in fact, and comfortable. Front-seat space is ample for even those over six feet tall, yet an eight-way power adjustable seat and tilt/telescoping steering column offer adjustability for most heights and body types.

Technology abounds, as you expect with Acura, undercutting the competition on the equipment available for the price–though you won’t find some of the higher-end features BMW and Mercedes-Benz offer on the list of available upgrades, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and parking assistance. What you will find, however, is standard dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, ambient lighting, a seven-speaker sound system with USB/MP3/Auxiliary support, Bluetooth handsfree calling, and more–all standard. An available Technology Package adds navigation with voice controls, real-time traffic and weather, a 10-speaker Acura/ELS audio system, GPS-linked climate control, SMS texting support, and Pandora app functionality.

Most of this technology comes off well, notably the excellent Acura/ELS audio system, which produces clear, enveloping sound even at very low volumes. The navigation system is relatively easy to use, and functions well, but the display–though high-resolution–looks a bit dated in comparison to the large, wide-aspect screens in BMWs and the sharp, color-coordinated displays from Audi.

As a crossover, it’s not all about passenger comfort and tech goodies, however. There’s also the matter of cargo space and utility–that’s what sets it apart from an equivalently-priced sedan, after all. Here, the RDX is right in the zone for its compact crossover class, with 26.1 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, 61.3 cubic feet with the seats folded flat, and 76.9 cubic feet including under-floor storage. Even so, it’s aimed at younger pre-children couples and slightly older couples with children off to college, not so much at families, kids, and the attendant gear.

That said, the 2012 Acura RDX can make a pretty good, upscale vehicle for a growing family–one that’s a little more exciting to drive than most.

While the 2012 Acura RDX remains exciting to drive, it’s no longer the market standout for design that it was when first introduced for the 2007 model year. At that time it was also the first turbocharged vehicle for Honda or Acura in the U.S. market.

The 2012 Acura RDX remains related to the outgoing (2011) version of the Honda CR-V, but it’s a very different vehicle in many ways—styling included. The rakish design has a completely different personality on the outside, while inside it’s crisp and focused, though a bit conservative. Purely from a style and design perspective, the instrument panel is beautiful and well sculpted, with a two-tiered look complemented with well-placed bright-work and accents, along with the deep, hooded gauge cluster.

The turbocharged and inter-cooled 2.3-liter VTEC four-cylinder makes 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It comes teamed with a five-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and it can seem a little spastic, thanks to turbo lag, and when the turbo does kick in, it comes on strong, making it difficult to modulate the power. The new front-wheel-drive version of the 2012 Acura RDX doesn’t feel substantially different from the all-wheel-drive model. Steering is quick and light, brakes are strong, and the 2012 Acura RDX feels nimble, while ride quality can be on the harsh side.

In the front seats, most adults will be happy; but in back adult knees will likely be mashed up against the hard plastic backs of those front perches. The downward sloping roof-line cuts into the cargo area a bit, but fold the back seats forward for larger items and you’re golden. On the bright side, the 2012 Acura RDX has a plethora of handy storage places for things—and not only the small stuff. Fit and finish in the 2012 Acura RDX is excellent, and the Acura RDX‘s interior spaces are fitted with lots of finely grained and silver-painted plastic–a look that’s sharp, but also a little tired. The only consistent disappointment within the cabin–likely to be noticed on longer trips–is that there can be quite a bit of road noise.

Depending on expectations, the 2012 Acura RDX could disappoint. Bluetooth connectivity, a seven-speaker sound system, and a USB/iPod port are on the standard-features list, while XM satellite radio, DVD-Audio capability, and real-time XM traffic info are optional. Overall, while the Acura RDX is very well equipped with traditional comfort-and-convenience features, but on this tech-savvy, luxury-brand vehicle, safety-tech features like a blind-spot system, lane-departure, or active headlamps are lacking, and items like a heated steering wheel or heated rear seats–now offered on much more affordable vehicles–aren’t to be found here.

The 2012 Acura MDX embodies much of what’s made mid-size crossovers the modern vehicle of choice for American suburban families. With strong acceleration, a comfortable cabin, and impressive safety–all the while offering just a little understated ruggedness–the Acura MDX gives a wide range of shoppers what they need in a seven-passenger, three-row luxury crossover vehicle.

The Acura MDX‘s handsome profile carries through for 2012, as does the brash front-end design that’s polarized some of this model’s conservative buyer set. But ever since this model’s last full redesign, for the 2007 model year, we’ve considered it one of Honda‘s better efforts at giving a rather utilitarian, box-on-wheels design some character. The cabin’s a well-executed comfort zone with Milano leather trim and wood grain trim cascading from the midline of the dash, as on the bigger RL sedan. In all, it’s a modern, well-tailored workplace–except for the center stack, which can seem a bit cluttered.

Performance is surprisingly strong in the 2012 Acura MDX; a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter six doles out strong acceleration and impressive passing power, with just a tinge of intake growl, and it’s paired up with a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The 2012 Acura MDX step off smartly from stoplights (0-60 in about seven seconds), and passes with enthusiasm. Too-light power steering remains the chief complaint, and overall we think the 2012 Acura MDX‘s optional magnetic-electronic suspension system improves both ride and handling (though the base setup is good, too).

Acura’s Super Handling all-wheel-drive system remains standard. The complex system pushes power to each wheel based on its available traction. The system neatly excises some of the sluggishness and heft that plagues larger three-row SUVs, so you can have fun hustling this one on a curvy road.

There are three rows of seating in the 2012 Acura MDX, and adults will find all-day comfort in any of the perches in the front two rows. The front seats especially offer great bolstering and support. As for the third row, it’s child-sized, as are most benches in this class, but the second-row seat tilts and slides forward to expand access to the back. Storage bins and cubbies are everywhere inside the 2012 Acura MDX, and the rear cargo area is large enough to accept a lot of luggage, particularly when the third row is folded down.

The 2012 Acura MDX has a great record for safety, and it’s been a longtime IIHS Top Safety Pick (it’s only not for 2012 as it still hasn’t been tested for roof strength). In the new, revised federal frontal test, it achieved four out of five stars.

The 2012 Acura MDX is priced right in the same range as other luxury-brand crossovers, but it sure doesn’t disappoint in terms of features. Leather upholstery, heated power seats, a three-zone climate control system, a power tailgate, Bluetooth, XM satellite radio, and steering-wheel audio and phone controls are all standard. One odd omission is that the base model still lacks a USB port; to get that, you need to upgrade to the 410-watt premium sound system. The nav system includes 15 gigabytes of storage for music, and real-time traffic and rerouting functions. There’s also a rear DVD entertainment package, and an Advance package that adds on ventilated front seats; the adaptive suspension; and a host of safety pieces, like blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and brakes that apply themselves if the vehicle senses an accident is imminent.

Acura TSX models are sporty compacts, just short of mid-size, and aimed toward those who want a premium look and feel with a little more comfort and practicality compared to traditional sport sedans like the BMW 3-Series or Infiniti G37.

The Acura TSX is sized in the same range as those models, but its interior is roomier than most–in back-seat space, especially. The majority of the Acura TSX lineup comes in sedan form, though last year Acura brought the wagon back, albeit only in four-cylinder form, as the TSX Sport Wagon.

Based on the European-market Honda Accord, the TSX has a attractive styling inside and out—particularly in wagon form–though it does have its low points. The latest, much-maligned Acura grille that’s ingloriously been dubbed a “bionic beaver” was very slightly softened last year, but otherwise these are nicely proportioned vehicles on the outside. The cabin’s more overtly handsome, with a gentle arc that spans the dash, plus cleanly designed, high-quality materials and easy-to-use controls.

The base engine on the TSX sedan (and the only one in the Sport Wagon) remains a 201-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, and it’s spunky and more than adequate with either the six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission (Sport Wagon shoppers also have to stick with the automatic). The available 280-hp V-6 adds some serious punch–and the capable chassis makes the most of its power and torque, despite front-wheel drive–but the four is plenty strong for these models’ size and weight. Steering and ride are very European in feel, tuned to be on the taut side though not punishing. Gas mileage is pretty good for the four, at up to 22 mpg city, 31 highway, with the V-6 achieving 19/28.

As the smallest sedan in the Acura range, the TSX has less interior space than the larger TL and RL models; but the difference isn’t as significant as you might think. Front seats are impressive, with multi-adjustments and good comfort for a wide range of sizes; back seats are contoured for adults, but legroom and headroom could be tight for six-footers. Sedans get a surprisingly roomy trunk, while Sport Wagon models for this year get 5.7 cubic feet more space. How so? Acura’s done away with the spare tire completely, replacing it with a repair kit.

The 2012 Acura TSX is an IIHS Top Safety Pick–reassuring if you’re choosing it as a family vehicle–although we’ve found outboard visibility to be a little tough. Its features set is impressive, too, but it’s missing some of the leading safety-tech options like blind-spot warning or active cruise control. A USB port, Bluetooth, XM, and leather seating with heated, powered front buckets are all on the standard-feature list. And while we see the available power tailgate as silly here, we’d definitely stand behind the available Tech Package, which brings upgraded audio and a hard-drive navigation system.

This year, Acura has also added a TSX Special Edition that adds to the four-cylinder model a more aggressive front-end appearance, side sills, and five-spoke polished-finish alloys.

What is important for you to have in your car? Sometimes these are the questions we as the consumers should ask ourselves.
Is it a 5 Star Safety Rating?
Does it perform well based on our driving habits?
Comfort or Luxury? Maybe even some engine power behind the hood?
The 2012 Acura TL4 Door Sedan offers quite an exceptional sleek styling, durability, and all of the above mentioned of course.

Acura has in recent years shown with its TL that there really is a different way to reorder priorities and end up with an engaging sport sedan–without a cramped back seat or compromised real-world drivability. And in top SH-AWD trim, the 2012 Acura TL can be quite thrilling to drive–a complete and compelling sport sedan, even if lacking the pedigree of its German rivals.

Ever since its last full redesign for 2009, the Acura TL‘s seemingly robot-inspired look has been controversial—or refreshing, depending on how you see it. Most notably, for 2012 the ‘love-it-or-leave-it’ front-end styling has been toned down just a bit, with the pointy beak giving way to a minimal vee shape and a more horizontal orientation to the front bumper. In back, the license plate has been raised, with a diffuser added, and wide dual exhaust exits rather than last year’s quad tips. On the inside, there’s much less controversy and more to like. Gentle arcs and circles predominate, beautifully melding leather and synthetic, analog and digital in an artful yet logical way that is uniquely Acura. Except for some “warmer colors,” the snug and cockpit-like yet reasonably space-efficient layout carries over.

For the most part, the 2012 Acura TL isn’t as much of an overt sport sedan as those with dedicated rear-drive platforms, like the BMW 335i or Infiniti G37, but it is clearly a car meant to be driven, rather than ridden in. The standard 280-horsepower 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 is essentially the same engine as used in the Honda Accord and powers front wheels with a five-speed automatic transmission. But if performance at all matters, you’ll want to step up to the TL SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive), and you’ll get the 305-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 from the RL sedan juicing all four wheels through Acura‘s capable system that removes any threat of torque steer, displays how its distributing power in the instrument cluster, and almost gives the TL the feel of a rear-wheel-drive sport sedan-as long as you’re heavy on the gas. The availability of a six-speed manual with the SH-AWD also ups its sport-sedan credentials. The system feels almost impossible to fluster, allocating torque not only front-to-back but left-to-right, to help with slick surfaces or quick emergency maneuvers.

The 2012 Acura TL remains built on Honda Accord roots, and that pays off for interior space. There are generously sized, supportive front seats (although they could use more lateral support for performance driving), plus a nice, adult-sized backseat that could accommodate three across. The only major disappointment is the trunk’s meager 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space. That said, the ride is firm but not harsh in the 2012 Acura TL, but there’s a pronounced difference in road noise between the base version and the SH-AWD, with its larger, lower-profile 19-inch wheels. Build quality is typically Acura, with solid materials and close tolerances, though there aren’t as many options or upgrades as you’ll find at brands like BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus.

The TL is at its best for those who want to pair that luxury-sedan cabin with an impressive tech feature set. Even the base TL features a standard USB iPod/MP3 interface, an eight-speaker audio system, and a crisp, high-resolution center-mounted display for controlling the infotainment system. Going up the scale, the top SH-AWD model sure can seem pricey, but it’s a complete, sophisticated sport sedan with the Tech Package, including a navigation system with live traffic, weather, and rerouting; a rearview camera; solar-sensing temperature control, keyless access, and an upgraded 440-watt Acura/ELS surround sound system. A top Advance Package adds to that ventilated seats, a blind-spot system, and those top 19-inch wheels.

General Motor CO Sales Bringing More Debt?

Two years ago, General Motors decided to take a risk and build a plug in hybrid vehicle. The vehicle itself was a sure success. However, what effect do the sales have on the profit made from the company itself? It has been reported by industrial analysts that General Motor CO loses approximately half the money it takes to build each one of its vehicles. Their newest introduction to the company was the Chevrolet Volt Sedan, a hybrid plug in car. According to the company, it costs approximately $89,000 to manufacture each vehicle.

The Chevrolet Volt Sedan seems to be a small blessing to consumers with the rise of gas prices. For a charging battery that takes about ten to sixteen hours to fully operate, consumers would spend approximately $1.60 a day to ride their vehicle. Pumping gas and inhaling the fumes is no longer an option within the first thirty-eight miles. Consumers fill up every nine hundred miles approximately. The hybrid is also rated five star for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. SO this must be perfection correct? For the buyers, yes of course. However…for General Motors CO, it’s a whole different tale.

The approximate cost to buy a new Chevrolet Volt Sedan is approximately $41,000 with a federal tax credit of $7,500, bringing the cost a lot more affordable in today’s economy. To rent such an advanced vehicle, it cost about $350 monthly. Unlike the EV-1, this introduction of environmental saving vehicle is taking a leap. However, what about the company’s profit? It cost $89,000 to manufacture one vehicle and is being sold for $33,500 new, $350 a month loaned. The company therefore is losing more money than gaining with its new product on hand.

The annual selling rate of the hybrid turned out to be 13,500 rather than the hopeful goal of 40,000. Americans today seem to be shrinking from the plug-in charging of their vehicles since it takes about ten hours to charge. To back up the low profits, General Motors has decided to halt its production starting next week. General Motors has stated that there will be a second generation hybrid that will conduct plenty of more sales and fill up all temporary losses. General Motors has created a new species of vehicles with its plug in and electric technology that they hope to advance with other models; as other competitors come to light working on more advanced hybrids. For now let us consumers enjoy the new hybrid, environmentally correct vehicle at its low cost convenience; hopefully profits will rise on its own accord.

Advantages of Leasing

Lower Payments

With a lease your monthly payments will almost always be lower than a conventional loan because you are paying for only a portion of the car’s full value over the lease period. This gives you the option of driving a nicer car for the same monthly cost.

Manufacturer Incentives

In tough times manufacturers may offer very attractive terms such as below market interest rates and artificially high residuals that both have the effect of lowering the monthly payment.

Lower Up-front Costs

Unless you decide to make a large down payment, initial costs for most leases will be limited to a refundable security deposit (typically one monthly payment rounded up to the nearest $25), sales tax depending on your state, title and registration fees, environmental fees (i.e., battery and tire disposal fees), and finally, your first monthly payment. As a result, leasing ties up less of your capital, freeing cash up for more lucrative investments.

Federal Taxes

With the tax reform act of 1989 phasing out deductions for interest on car loans, auto leasing may now compare more favorably against conventional financing from a tax standpoint. Although most individuals will not save taxes with a lease, some businesses may enjoy certain advantages with leasing. Consult your tax advisor for more information.

Sales Tax

Most states tax leases by taxing the monthly payment stream and any cash down payment (cap reduction). This works out to quite a bit less than paying sales tax on the full price of the vehicle as required in a purchase.

Hassle-free Disposition

At the end of the lease you simply turn the car back in to the dealer and walk away. You won’t have the effort and expense of selling the car or haggling over its trade-in value. If you decide to buy the car at the end of the lease you know about how much it will cost (no more than the residual value).

Disadvantages of Leasing

Early Termination

The terms for early termination of most leases can be very unpleasant for the consumer, particularly if the termination is forced, i.e., the car is totaled in an accident or stolen. In such cases, insurance pay-outs often fall far short of the balance due on the lease leaving you holding the bag. Many leasing companies will offer “gap insurance” for only a few dollars a month extra which is a wise investment.

There is a very good reason why it is so expensive to get out of a auto lease. Consider that your monthly payment is made up of two parts: depreciation and interest. The depreciation part of the payment is calculated by taking the difference between the cap cost and the residual (the total depreciation over the lease) and dividing it by the number of months. In effect, you are paying off the depreciation with equal payments each month. Graphically, the depreciation is being paid “in a straight line”

Higher Credit Requirements

Since the expensive car you will be driving for the next 2-5 years belongs to someone else (the auto leasing company), the owners want to be assured that you will make the payments on time and will not trash their car. Therefore, the credit worthiness standards tend to be higher for leases than conventional loans. In other words, if you have a troubled credit history you may have problems getting approved for a lease.

Mileage Limitations

Almost all leases limit the number of miles per year by imposing fees typically 10 to 15 cents per mile over 15,000 miles per year. If you put a lot of miles on a car, these fees can add up quickly.

No Ownership

Technically, when you lease a car, you are renting it. The leasing company retains ownership of the car and you pay for the privilege of driving (and maintaining) it. For many who have “owned” cars all their lives, this may be a psychological barrier.

1) Not Shopping Around
If you only receive one quote, how else should you know if you are getting a good deal on a car purchase when you have nothing else to compare it to? You always should have a second opinion just like you would with everything else.
Remember; a smart consumer is a consumer that shops around.

2) Smarter Decisions

Do take into account that a consumer that goes straight to the auto broker, understands that 8 times out of 10 he/she will receive a better deal than in a dealership.
Not to mention the extreme convenience you receive without any sales tactics and unbiased brand makes.
Meaning- you don’t like soft luxury comfort in a Lexus? We can take a look at the BMW, too rough for you? Why not drive in style in a Mercedes-Benz? And so on.

3) Pricing

We feel like Price is not the only thing that ties us and our clientele.
it is our loyalty to our customers, the way we treat our customers means more to them, than simply a good deal for cars. Because if they feel comfortable with us as people, they sure love as even more when doing business with us.

4) Rushing into a Deal

Yes, we all know it is very exiting getting yourself into a new car. The dealer pressures you with the following sentence “this deal is expiring today”. You are eager to get in that car, can’t wait to pull up into your driveway in the new car smell. Adrenaline is pumping and all of a sudden the numbers make sense to you. You signed the contracts and unfortunately in some States you sign it, you drive it; Only to find out the next day that your co-worker got the same exact car with the same packages and options for a much better deal. You see, the Sales staffs are trained to pick up a sense of inexperience in the auto industry, and will look at you as victim, rest assure they will take advantage of it.
Note to yourself, there could be two identical cars, but structured as two completely different deals. Its just like walking into a professional Flea Market and the sellers wear ties.

5) Be Real To Yourself

There are many Leasing Companies out there that have an establishment relationships with Car Dealerships. Cutting down the time for you not to hassle and stress over whats a great auto lease deal or not.
If you have your mind set on the Infiniti, with a price budget of a Toyota, Honda or a Nissan then we are just wasting each others time, aren’t we?
Instead, you should really focus on your budget instead on haggling down with Auto Brokers.
This way, you have more time for yourself to do research on the car you really want.
And if you do have a budget, please try not to go over it. Buyers Remorse is the last thing we both want to go with.

6) Not Reading The Fine Print

These days who reads the fine print? Some people feel like it is disrespectful to read the fine print in front of their Sales Person (you be surprised). For example I read the fine print when I can’t sleep- inside joke. Now however, for those of you who are not anal and feel like your in good hands at least these are some tips you should observe when purchasing a vehicle:
Is there a damage waiver?
Is there a disposition fee?
Are you covered for GAP insurance?
Does a Lemon Law apply in your state?
Does your new/used car come with a warranty?

And Finally…

7) Not Making A Call To Us

Not to brag or anything, but being in this business in over a decade, we NEVER had an upset, dissatisfied, or aggravated customer.
We have helped all our customers getting the car the right way, for an unbeatable price, the options desired, and mainly we make sure your terms and conditions are optimum.
We deliver what we advertise, and we only advertise what we can deliver. In other words, we don’t use the technique bait & switch. In addition to that we rarely advertise, our clientele does the sufficient referred to us because again,
THEY MADE THE RIGHT CALL, HAVE YOU?

Take a brief view on our website:

Or give us a call with any questions you may have at:

718-676-7272

And don’t be shy to drop to our friendly staffed office just to say ‘hello’
in South Brooklyn, NY
